Welcome to DeepForge

DeepForge is a colony management game inspired by Dwarf Fortress.

In DeepForge, you start with a company of 7 dwarves.

your dwarves spawn in a random ASCII-generated terrain, so each of your playthroughs will be unique.

in this game, dwarves aren't completely useless and robotic, as each dwarf has their Interests, Dislikes, Names, and specialties. your job as the player is to create a nation of these dwarves. you have to protect them from outside and inside dangers. to play this game you must know a couple of things, as the game does not come pre-packaged with a tutorial.

How To Play 101:

your first task is to chop down a tree. click on a nearby tree. As you can see, your closest dwarf will go and collect that tree, but also collect items on the way.

Red X's are flat land, which is suitable for building.

Most items in the game need stone. Wood is useless for now.

stone is used to create structures, to do so click one of the following hotkeys while hovering over flat land.

1 = Stone Wall, which is good fortification and holds off goblin attacks

2 = Floor/Bridge, dwarves can walk over this material

3 = House, these are used for dwarves to live in (will get replaced in future updates)

4 = Wheat, provides a good source of food for dwarves and grows near water for healthier food.

In this game, 1 day (24 hours) is turned down to 1 second in the game. each year around 360 in-game days, a baby is born and its possible one can die.

Death in this game is generated for each dwarf when they are born. a certain age they reach when they eventually die.

This game uses ASCII, Why?

well, I believe that more work should be done in gameplay over the design, If one spends too much time on their design and graphics, the game will not be a game, but rather a painting or a video. Where's the game? I am not here to say you shouldn't add graphics to a game, but what matters more? the game or the video? Dwarf Fortress came out 20 years ago, yet people still play it. although there is a refined Steam version, the classic version has a dedicated fanbase. I do admire good graphics but when one doesn't add a game to it, then its not fun.
